OMG! Have you seen anything like this weird creature found at Mistra Bay?
We’re getting the creeps…

We know Halloween is still a month away, but this sea creature is kind of giving us the creeps. A local posted this photo in a local wildlife enthusiasts Facebook group, and it just stunned us. We contacted Kane Ghirxi, who posted the photo, to tell us more about this odd-looking creature.

“It’s a sea hare,” he said, which is basically a sea slug of some sort and boy does it look SLIMEY! “I believe it’s an alien species. The last time I saw one was in Armier Bay, but it was a black one, commonly found in Malta. This one is considered new to our waters.”

In Maltese, it’s known as a serduq il-bahar, literally translated as a ‘sea cockerel.’ Like Kane said, the most common ones on our islands are darker in colour, usually brown or black. The Aplysia dactylomela is a spotted sea hare and is usually found in tropical and warm temperature seas.  Maybe the poor dude swam far away and is just trying to find his way back home!
