The photo was taken in 1991, a year before the airport’s opening.

Millions of people have made their way through the Malta International Airport throughout the years, but it hasn't always looked like it does now...

The MIA opened its doors to the public over 30 years ago, in February 1992 to be exact.

To celebrate this milestone, it shared an old black-and-white aerial photo of the airport as it was undergoing its final phases of construction back in 1991.

The car park and access roads, together with Apron Nine, can be seen still being built.

“I remember visiting this site as part of the cabin crew team together with our Manager, Mr. Titley. This was one of Malta's largest and most important projects at the time”, a former air crew member wrote in the comments.

“I was there for the inauguration and, before that, formed part of an Air Malta committee tasked with the initial planning of the new terminal under the chairmanship of the late Mr Edmond Micallef”, a flight consultant inspector continued in the comments.

What a big milestone for Malta’s aviation history!
