In one of his vlogs, the Maltese explorer Pierre Farrugia took his viewers on a different route to his usual countryside adventures. This time round he went on a tour of an urban but nonetheless scenic route between Bormla and Birgu.
Pierre started off this hike for Bormla’s Immaculate Conception Parish Church before making his way down to the promenade by the sea.
Here he came across what used to be the dry docks during the time of the British occupation in Malta. They have however been revamped and now turned into a beautiful and clean park where people can walk around.
There, Pierre also stumbled upon a modern metallic sculpture depicting the Maltese regatta boat underneath a hot air balloon made by Matthew Pandolfino.
He eventually crossed over the bridge to the other side and started making his way along the Birgu marina. The further he walked the bigger the boats and mega yachts got!
Pierre passed by the Freedom Monument which commemorates the day the British navy left Malta on the 31st March, 1979. In fact, this day was made a public holiday and it’s coming up at the end of the month.
A few metres away from the monument is the maritime Museum which is by far the largest museum in all of Malta.
He continued walking along the stunning Birgu waterfront before taking the stairs right beneath the grand Fort St Angelo. He arrived at a charming little swimming spot which is very popular with the locals during summer.
Pierre then walked back to the Birgu waterfront where he started making his way to Kalkara. Here, he came across many people training hard for the traditional regatta race that is happening as part of the Freedom Day celebrations.
