If you're planning to hit the beach in Gozo or Comino, it's important to think twice before diving in – the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) has just issued a public safety warning urging beachgoers to stay out of the water at several popular swimming spots due to dangerous sea conditions.
Red flags are flying at Marsalforn and double red flags have been raised at Ramla Bay and the Blue Lagoon in Comino – this means swimming is strictly prohibited. According to ERRC, strong currents and rough seas are making these areas particularly hazardous, posing a serious risk of drowning – even to experienced swimmers.
Follow these guidelines to stay safe:
- Do not swim in any area where red or double red flags are raised
- Obey lifeguard instructions immediately
- Keep children and non-swimmers far from the water’s edge
- Don’t be fooled by calm-looking seas – conditions can change rapidly and underwater currents aren’t always visible
- Help spread the word to keep others safe
ERRC reminds the public that your safety is their top priority and urges everyone to respect the warnings and stay out of the sea until conditions improve.
Stay safe, swimmers!
