The plans also emphasise water conservation and restoration of its ecosystems!

Turns out that Mosta’s iconic Wied Speranza is about to get some much-needed TLC, as Sustainable Development Minister Miriam Dalli and Park Malta General Manager Adrian Attard have just revealed that it will undergo a €500,000 restoration and clean-up project.

With warmer weather looming on the horizon, we’re itching to find new trails to explore all over the island, so this announcement is welcomed with open arms!

“Parks Malta has started the administrative work involved on Wied Speranza, starting from the Speranza Chapel to the San Pawl tal-Qlegħja Chapel. This work includes clearing material, removing invasive trees, and planting native plants and shrubs,” said Minister Miriam Dalli.

This rehabilitation project is set to start off with a clean-up of the valley to clear out illegally dumped waste, offering a safer and more accessibility to those who wish to enjoy the valley’s beauty.

It’s great to see that the plans also emphasise water conservation and restoring the valley’s various ecosystems through the reuse of rainwater.

“Through these projects and interventions by Parks Malta in the valleys, we are continuing to protect the natural heritage of our country, so that they can be appreciated and enjoyed by the public,” said Mr. Attard.

The €500,000 investment is set to result in a central walking trail for visitors and hikers to enjoy.

Aside from the clean-up and restoration of ecosystems, the project will also focus on restoring rural structures, rubble walls, stone bridges and fountains located in this valley.

This project is not the first of its kind and is in fact part of a larger Life IP River Basin Management Plan project.

Will you be exploring this valley once it’s restored?
