New COVID variant! Health Minister announces travel ban on six Southern African countries
The ban will be put in place tomorrow.
As COVID-19 cases are back on the rise, it comes as no surprise that yet another new variant has been detected…
Recently discovered by South African scientists, it has been found that said variant has already developed mutations, making it highly contagious and more resistant to vaccines.
In light of this, Health Minister Chris Fearne took to social media to announce a travel ban “to and from regions with known cases of the new COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529.”
The six affected countries are South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe.
The travel ban will be put in place tomorrow at midnight.
What do you make of such a ban?
