New cat cafés! Malta could soon get more cozy corners for strays
As many as 15 new cat cafés and dog parks could open through a new scheme

More cat cafés and dog parks could be opening in Malta in the near future, with local councils set to benefit from a scheme precisely aimed at creating these spaces.

Despite the name, cat cafés resemble cafés less than they do mini-sanctuaries, spots where people can spend some time with stray felines in a safe environment.

Environment Minister Miriam Dalli and Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said announced that Project Green will fund local councils to develop new cat cafés and dog parks.

€50,000 will be allocated to each project, with a total investment of €750,000 dedicated to the scheme, amounting to a total of 15 potential new cat cafés and dog parks around Malta and Gozo.

It looks like Malta’s stray cats could soon have a few more cosy corners to call their own!
