Nature revived! Chadwick Lakes restoration is now complete in one of Malta's most scenic valleys
Good news for nature lovers!

Francesca Vella

Chadwick Lakes – or as it’s referred to in Maltese, Wied il-Qlejgħa – is known locally as one of the best places to go after it rains in Malta, offering gorgeous views of the closest thing the islands have to a ‘lake’, and the rare chance of spotting a frog or two! Unfortunately, a particularly severe storm in the past caused some damage in the valley, with some portions of the walls collapsing, causing part of the area to become inaccessible to the public.

A major restoration project with the intent of repairing this damage is now complete, and included reinforcement of the surrounding walls and rebuilding of part of the main road leading to the area. This is good news all round – both for farmers requiring access to the surrounding fields, as well as those seeking to enjoy the nature the area has to offer.

These works have also restored the water storage in the basin - the largest of its kind in the Maltese Islands, with a holding capacity of a whopping 35,000,000 litres!

If you’ve never been to Chadwick Lakes, the days following this rainy weekend might be a good time to visit and see the lakes in all their glory, while enjoying the two-kilometre walking trail.

Have you ever been to Chadwick Lakes?
