National legacy! Festivities announced to mark 50th Anniversary of Malta’s Republic Day
It was the 13th of December 1974 when under heavy rain, the Maltese and Gozitan people flocked to St George's Square in Valletta, to witness the first speech of the first President of the Republic of Malta, Sir Anthony Mamo. Fifty years later, the Maltese and the Gozitans will once again be invited to witness the history of the Republic of Malta in this same square.
‘L-Istorja, Int’ is the slogan chosen for this anniversary – one through which this National Day is linked to each citizen celebrating Malta’s history, that brought us to where we are today.
This celebration will also be coupled with an audio-visual show staged on the 13th, 14th and 15th of December in Valletta’s St. George Square, where the majestic facade of the President's Palace will serve as a modern canvas, onto which the narration of Malta’s history will be projected.
In the coming days, an educational campaign will be launched, involving the participation of Maltese, Gozitans, and even those who have made Malta their home. This campaign will focus on the advantages Malta has enjoyed since becoming a Republic, while also reflecting on key historical moments that have shaped the nation. It will also explore the country’s aspirations for the future, celebrating both past achievements and the ongoing journey ahead.
Free tickets for the show taking place on December 13th-15th are available on the ShowsHappening website.
