Meet ‘Mr Coving’! The tiny bat who gave a family in Malta a Halloween surprise
When your unexpected house guest has wings!

Francesca Vella

It’s not every day you find a bat in your bedroom – but that’s exactly what happened to one Maltese family this Halloween season!

The team at Xrobb L-Għaġin Nature Park & Wildlife Rehab Centre shared the adorable story of ‘Mr Coving’, a tiny bat who accidentally found his way indoors, giving the homeowners quite a fright.

Startled and unsure where to go, the little bat quickly squeezed himself into a small gap in the coving to hide, earning his fitting nickname. Despite their best efforts, the family couldn’t reach him as the space was too deep and narrow.

That’s when Marisa and her family stepped in, kindly removing part of the coving to help the tiny visitor out. Once rescued, one of the centre’s volunteers checked him over, gave him a good meal and some water, and before long, Mr Coving was back to full strength, ready to flutter off into the night where he belongs.

Just another reminder that even Malta’s smallest wild visitors sometimes need a little helping hand, and that a little bit of kindness, even towards a bat, can make all the difference.

Well done to everyone involved in this rescue!
