Do you remember this 2014 storm that simultaneously saw Malta experience violent and calm weather?
A rare phenomenon!

Emma Galea

Exactly, eleven years ago today, a storm like no other hit Malta and Gozo.

It saw some parts of Malta experience some extremely fine and calm weather while other localities experienced extremely violent weather at the same time.

Some villages were being hit with heavy rain and hurricane like force wind gusts while other localities who were right in the eye of storm had perfectly calm weather.

This means that those villages who were experiencing none of the horrible effects of the storm were right in the middle of where the storm was forming.

It is aptly referred to as the eye of the storm as from above it looks like there is a hollow circle that is surrounded by the “eyewall”, a ring of towering thunderstorms.
