Meet Malta’s first male midwife! Nathan Zahra Piscopo makes history
...and graduating with First Class Honours to boot!

Francesca Vella

It’s a proud and historic moment for Malta – Nathan Zahra Piscopo has officially become the first male midwife in the country, after receiving results that say he’ll be graduating with First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery.

Traditionally considered a female-dominated profession, midwifery has started to shift in many parts of the world, welcoming more men into the field. And here’s Malta’s trailblazer!

Nathan shared the exciting news on social media, celebrating the culmination of four years of hard work, passion, and dedication. ‘It was the end of an era, but the start of an age,’ he wrote. ‘A huge thank you goes to my family, close friends, and everyone who supported me, as well as the countless women and their families who’ve let me share their special moments with them.’

Midwifery isn’t just about delivering babies – it’s about providing care, support, and strength to women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond. With this milestone, Nathan Zahra Piscopo has broken new ground and inspired many others to follow their passion, regardless of convention.

Here's to breaking boundaries in healthcare!
