Meet Cecilia! The stray duck of Qrendi who found a new home
She was found swimming in a fountain, visibly malnourished.

Thanks to the vigilant eyes of the public and the swift action of the Malta Ranger Unit, a severely malnourished duck roaming around Qrendi has been rescued, rehomed, and renamed, and she’s now thriving in a safe, loving environment.

The duck, now affectionately named Cecilia, was found early in the morning at Ġnien tal-Warda, a public garden and playground in Qrendi. Locals spotted her swimming in the fountain, but it quickly became clear that she wasn’t simply out for a paddle. Cecilia was visibly malnourished and in poor health.

Thanks to recent investments in rescue equipment and quick approval by the Qrendi Local Council, Rangers were able to safely enter the fountain and retrieve Cecilia.

Luckily, the Rangers had already secured a foster home for Cecilia, ensuring that she would be taken care of immediately after being rescued. She was transported directly to her new home, where she was met with food and a good deal of TLC.

The Malta Ranger Unit publicly thanked the local community for their vigilance and generous donations, which make these rescues possible. They also extended gratitude to Cecilia’s new carers, who welcomed her with open arms.

If you want to support more rescues like Cecilia’s, follow the Malta Ranger Unit on Facebook and consider donating to help them continue their vital work.

Well done to everyone involved in the rescue!
