Alexia Coppini, of Alexia Coppini Fine Art, has recently created the most stunning artworks on a slightly different canvas to the norm: a pair of designer Louis Vuitton bags! So, I reach out to the artists to find out how, and well, why!

Alexia says that she’s been painting all her life, and it has been a passion of hers as long as she can remember. She has also been exhibiting her astounding works for the past 10 years. Asked about the transition from the traditional canvas to the very non-traditional medium of designer bags, Alexia explains, “a client who is a collector of all things beautiful approached me to paint on a collection of luxury bags. Louis Vuitton is an instant recognisable luxury brand, and adding a personal touch to a piece makes it very unique and eye catching.” Indeed it does, because these creations are absolutely stunning!

So, where did the inspiration behind these pieces come from? “The inspiration came once both the client and myself had a clear idea of what we wanted the piece to look like and represent: a bright, vivid and contemporary painting on an item that one wears to travel, to work, to play.” She explains that paintings are usually admired in homes, offices, on yachts or in museums, but this concept will allow paintings the opportunity “to travel the world and get noticed, be enjoyed by passersby and by fellow travellers and art lovers without the need to visit the place where the painting hangs.”

Over on the more traditional side of things, Alexia Coppini Fine Art has had a super successful year with a collection of 50 paintings launched at the Phoenicia Hotel. The hotel’s iconic Palm Court is home to a few large pieces of this very collection. “Building such a large collection takes months of research, preparation and organisation. When a passion develops into a profession, everything follows,” the artist says.

Intrigued by the bags? Well, while these particular pieces were a commission for a client, if you're keen on getting your hands on something similar, you’re in luck. Alexia reveals that she is currently working on a collection of clutch bags which she plans to launch in 2019, and we can’t wait!
