Malta weather page explains itself after getting hurricane forecast “completely wrong”
Folks weren't pleased with the forecast.

Last week, a Medicane was forecast to hit the Maltese Islands. It was expected to bring along rough seas, strong winds, and thunderstorms according to several weather sites, including Malta Weather. But, despite often being spot on in their predictions, it soon became clear that this time, the local weather site had got it wrong.

In a post shared by the page yesterday, Malta Weather explained: “the system that hit us early last Friday morning is called a Mediterranean Cyclone” as opposed to a Medicane, a term given to “a low pressure system that forms in the Mediterranean.”

They continue to say that the cyclone “should have produced damaging winds and very high seas” and they have a few theories as to why this did not materialise. “But perhaps we should thank our lucky stars that it was weaker than we anticipated and that it caused no damage.” We're certainly with you on that guys!

The wind formation did cause havoc in the eastern Mediterranean however, particularly in Turkey where “it produced a number of tornadoes and extremely rough seas.”

Despite this mishap, locals appreciated the apology, commending the weather site for admitting their mistake in the comments section of their post, with many understanding that the weather is unpredictable, especially for an island of Malta's size! And we'd be the first to thank Malta Weather for their hard work and for their information nonetheless.

“We will check what went wrong with this forecast and do our best to make sure it never repeats itself,” they promised.
