It isn’t a question of if and but anymore. The Mediterranean hurricane (medicane) has been confirmed by forecasters, and its affects will be felt in the Maltese Islands, possibly as early as today!

According to Malta Weather, the medicane that is developing to the east of Sardinia will make its way towards Malta and Gozo, with the main threat being “huge waves up to 11 metres high.” Yikes! We’ll also likely be experiencing very strong winds, rain showers, thunderstorms and a sprinkle of hail too. You know, just to keep things interesting!

Warnings have been issued to avoid coastal areas due to rough seas and to refrain from parking under trees and unsteady objects. The Gozo ferry service may be affected too, but nothing has been confirmed as yet.

Stay safe out there and remember to seek shelter when the elements get too much!
