Malta’s Victoria Lines, an imposing 12-kilometre-long defensive wall stretching across the island, has been featured by the Dutch YouTube channel ‘HistoryRepeated’. The channel, which explores significant historical, archaeological, and cultural sites worldwide, has presented to the world Malta’s iconic fortifications in a newly released video.
HistoryRepeated is a relatively new channel, dedicated to offering virtual tours of historical landmarks for travellers and history lovers alike. The channel has previously featured sites such as the nearly 2,000-year-old Roman fortress of Matilo in the Netherlands and the abandoned Saria Island in Greece.
The video on the Victoria Lines includes breathtaking aerial shots, giving viewers a bird’s-eye perspective of the wall’s strategic purpose. Built by the British in the 19th century, the fortifications were designed as a defensive barrier, preventing invading forces from advancing from Malta’s northern coast toward the harbours in the south.
The feature also shows some key spots along the Victoria Lines, including Dwejra (Malta’s version!), Bingemma, and Targa Gap in Mosta. Alongside drone footage, the video also offers ground-level perspectives, allowing viewers to experience what it’s like to walk along the lines - ideal for those who may not be able (or willing!) to tackle the hike themselves.
For history enthusiasts and travelers alike, this feature brings well-deserved international attention to one of Malta’s lesser-known but fascinating fortifications - check it out!
