Travellers will have to quarantine on their way back.
If you were thinking of a quick getaway to Ireland any time soon, we’ve got bad news. After the recent spike in cases of COVID-19, Malta has been removed from the country’s ‘Green list’ which includes places that are deemed safe for travel without quarantine.
According to The Irish Independent, Malta (together with Cyprus, San Marino, Monaco and Gibraltar) have been removed from the list and “anyone travelling to those destinations would now have to isolate for 14 days on the way back,” they reported.
After the recent spike in cases, Malta was also put on Lithuania’s black list. From last Monday, Maltese citizens and legal residents are not permitted to fly to Lithuania while returning Lithuanian citizens must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.
Malta experienced a surge in cases following clusters related to mass events such as parties and feast marches. Some of the cases also include migrants who have been tested and quarantined at Hal Far.
