The team behind the short Maltese film ‘Cookie Box’, on the heels of their win at the Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival, has announced another win, this time of a Globe Award for Best International Short at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) that took place over the past week in Nigeria.

The AFRIFF is one of Africa’s biggest and most influential film festivals, and having the story of ‘Cookie Box’, one centring around a Ghanaian migrant worker who comes to work in Malta, is a tremendous honour for the team.

In a post announcing the win, writer and director Adam Żurawiecki says, ‘We’re incredibly proud to have been recognised among such inspiring films that truly embody AFRIFF’s vision of bringing Indigenous stories to a global audience, celebrating the richness and resilience of diverse cultures through the art of film.’

The cast and crew that made the film are a notably multicultural team, including local cinematographer Clive Brincat, Polish colourist Konrad Zięcina and an ensemble of local and foreign cast members, including Joyce Everest, Frida Cauchi, and Mikhail Basmadjian.

Well done to the entire team!
