Moving to Malta? This European network will help you figure out the most crucial step
Finding a new job is hard enough. Finding a new job in a new country before you’ve even moved is downright stressful.
The good thing is you don’t have to go through all of that alone.
That’s right – the EURES (European Employment Services) Network is here to help make the process of transitioning to a new job as an expat as easy as possible – for employees and employers alike.
Before we jump into all the different ways EURES can help you, here’s a bit of background about this network…
Set up in 1993, EURES is a co-operation network between the European Commission and the Public Employment Services of all 27 EU member states (plus Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland.)

The resources provided by all EURES member and partner organisations allow this network to offer top-class services and thus fulfil the following objectives:
- Guide potentially mobile workers on job opportunities and living / working conditions in the EU and the European Economic Area (EEA)
- Assist employers wishing to recruit workers from other countries
Sounds like something you could benefit from?
Good thing is, all of the aforementioned services are being delivered in Malta by the EURES Malta Team within Jobsplus.
Now that that’s covered, let’s go into the nitty-gritty of how exactly EURES can aid you in your job search…

For starters, it’s good to know that the EU’s principle of free movement means that, if you are an EU or EEA jobseeker, then you can get a job in any country within the European Union as well as Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland.
So, if you’re a Maltese national looking to start a new job in an EU or EEA country or a European jobseeker thinking of getting a job in Malta, EURES Malta’s services are perfect for you!
This network is willing to follow you and aid you in every step of your job-seeking journey.
From undertaking an online job search and teaching you all about the living and working conditions of a particular country, to putting you in touch with advisors all over the EU and keeping you informed about online job fairs and recruitment drives, EURES Malta has got your back.

Useful, right?
There’s also an unending list of resources available on EURES Malta’s website that will, quite literally, teach you all you need to know about taking up employment on the islands.
Let’s say you’re planning on moving permanently to Malta and are on the look-out for a job…
Start off by informing yourself about the process of searching for a job in Malta. This section of the EURES Malta website will guide you through all the basics of seeking employment in Malta – we’re talking recruitment platforms, creating a Jobsplus account, and, if needs be, registering as unemployed and getting even more support in your job search once you are in Malta.

The living and working conditions section will introduce you to all the practical, legal, and administrative matters related to working in Malta in the most user-friendly way possible. All the information in this section is updated once a year, so you can rest assured that everything is as up to date as it can be.
Once you feel ready and prepared to embark on your job-search, make sure to check out the taking up the employment in Malta section. There you’ll find all the main administrative steps you need to take care of yourself before you start your new job. These include obtaining a National Insurance (NI) number, registering your employment, and filling a residence card application.
If you come across some issues during your job-search or relocation process, make sure to get in contact with the EURES Malta team.

EURES advisors can be reached on +356 2220 1662/3 from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm. In summer, opening hours change to 8am to 12:30pm.
