Local talent shines! Maltese actor Romeo Roxman Gatt stars in twice-nominated British short film ‘Passage’
Romeo Roxman Gatt, a local trans actor, has shared the thrilling news that a short film in which he plays the protagonist, titled ‘Passage’, has just earned two major nominations at the Sunrise Film Festival in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
Out of an impressive 187 submissions, ‘Passage’ is one of only four films to be nominated in both the Best British Short and Best Story categories – an incredible feat for the entire cast and crew.
What’s even more exciting is that the Sunrise Film Festival is a BIFA-qualifying festival, meaning that films showcased there, like ‘Passage’, are eligible for submission to the prestigious British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), specifically in the Best British Short Film category. That’s a big deal for any emerging talent, and a proud moment for Romeo and the rest of the team.
Written and directed by Orion Isaacs, a London-based filmmaker, Passage tells a deeply emotional story, following a displaced trans father and his nine-year-old son as they journey across unforgiving moorlands in search of safety and belonging. Alongside Romeo, the film also stars Jimmy Maslin Fong as his son.
Congratulations to Romeo and the rest of the team!
