Local fashion designer shares emotional post about weight loss & mental health journey
“Last year I experienced different things and I finally decided that it was time for a change”

Much loved local fashion designer Gaetano has just shared an incredibly moving post about something that we've possibly all felt at some point in our lives, and is so relatable.

“I’ve never been one to complain about my weight or be upset about the things I wear. I’ve actually always adapted myself to my type of figure and was never on any particular diet,” he began in a Facebook post. “Last year I experienced different things and I finally decided that it was time for a change, because otherwise I was going to be worse off.”

Gaetano goes on to reveal that he suffered depression and anxiety, and no matter how many people he surrounded himself with, he still felt alone. “Many think that depression and anxiety are a woman’s thing and once a man opens his mouth about the subject he is told to ‘man up’ or ‘you’re just a drama queen’,” he says, revealing that he felt that it was a struggle every day.

He also touches upon the subject of stress, something most of us feel on the daily. “There comes a time when be it at work or in your personal life, you will always find something that is going to stress you out,” Gaetano shares, saying that it is not ideal, since stress raises blood pressure, which could lead to various health complications.

Gaetano moves on to share his journey and how he is coping with his situation. “You have to close your eyes, believe in yourself and say ‘Enough is enough! I am going to change my ways: the eating and drinking habits, I’ll find time to exercise and let go of some steam and get rid of the stress and anxiety,’” he says, giving advice to anyone wanting to do the same.

“Although many might laugh at the idea of meditation and affirmations, I can tell you that there is nothing to laugh about. On the contrary! Meditation and affirmations are miraculous. In a few months you’ll feel like a different person and you’ll start living as opposed to just existing.”

“These photos show my journey in a short amount of time. I’m by no means saying that my anxiety has gone, but I control it because I have woken up. When will you?”
