Lights, camera, Valletta! Mediterrane Film Festival set for its 2026 edition this June
The Mediterrane Film Festival is set to return for its fourth edition between 21st and 28th June 2026, bringing a vibrant celebration of cinema to Valletta and several of the island’s most iconic locations.
Organised by the Malta Film Commission, the festival continues to grow in scale and ambition, reinforcing Malta’s position as a thriving hub for international filmmaking.
Under the direction of Pierre Agius and curator Mark Adams, the 2026 edition expands its programme from three to five strands. These include the Big Screen Competition, celebrating global mainstream cinema; the Mediterranean Competition, spotlighting regional storytelling; and Mare Nostrum, focusing on films with environmental themes.
Two additional strands, Best of the World and Malta Focus, will showcase international highlights alongside local productions, offering audiences a diverse cinematic experience.
Screenings will take place at venues such as Embassy Cinemas, with special outdoor showings at Upper Barrakka Gardens and Fort Ricasoli. Many screenings will also include Q&A sessions with filmmakers, providing audiences with unique insights into the creative process.
This year’s theme, ‘Beyond Together,’ highlights Malta’s growing role as a bridge between cultures and creative industries, encouraging collaboration and innovation across borders. Alongside public screenings, the festival’s industry programme will feature panel discussions and masterclasses led by internationally renowned figures, continuing its tradition of fostering dialogue and professional exchange.
A key highlight will be the Golden Bee Awards, recognising excellence across multiple categories, from Best Feature Film to Audience Awards. Winners will be announced during a gala event on 28th June.
Beyond cinema, the festival also carries a charitable dimension, with ticket proceeds supporting Puttinu Cares.
Following the success of previous editions and a record-breaking 2025, the Mediterrane Film Festival continues to elevate Malta’s global cinematic profile, building on a legacy that spans over a century of filmmaking on the islands.
