It’s official! Maltese youths live with their parents for A LOT longer than other Europeans
And we’re not moving out anytime soon!

Malta rates among the highest in the European Union when it comes to the rate of youths living with their parents, according to Eurostat. And I mean, can you blame us? We love our home comforts!

It seems that across the board, the number of young women living in parental homes is lower than that of men. Maltese mama’s boys can attest to this, coming in at 87 per cent, while 82.4 per cent of women live with their parents. The Maltese youngsters in the 16 to 19 age bracket are registered at just a smidge under 99 per cent.

Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Finland and Denmark scored the lowest, with many youths leaving the parental home at 18, especially due to studies and work in different parts of the country.

Be it because of rising property prices, not being able to resist mama’s cooking, or a just an ingrained custom, it seems like we’re not moving out anytime soon... sorry, Ma!

When did you move out of your family home?
