It’s here! Malta welcomes long-awaited rain, set to continue for the rest of the week
Stay safe on the flooded roads!

Francesca Vella

Many are celebrating this afternoon as after one of the driest Octobers in Maltese history, the heavens have opened and the rain has begun earlier than anticipated, in heavy but localised showers across the island. According to Maltese Islands Weather, the rain is forecast to continue till the weekend, so make sure not to plan too many outdoor activities.

Reports of flooding roads are coming in from various localities, so ensure to plan your route well if you plan to be on the roads this evening!

A Maltese saying goes ‘Għal San Anard iżra’ f’kull art’, translated to ‘For the feast of St Anard, sow crops in every field’, implying that this is the time of year that the rain should come to water the fields. The feast of St Anard is incidentally celebrated today, proving that our ancestors that came up with the expression were eerily accurate in their predictions!

Are you enjoying the current rainy weather?
