Research is being undertaken to gradually include more destinations.
Local tourism authorities are working hard to find a safe and viable solution to the travel crisis after COVID-19 brought the industry to its knees.
Speaking at the "Webinar on Tourism in Malta : The Way Forward," Minister for Tourism Julia Farrugia Portelli said one of the options that is currently being looked is the creation of safe travel corridors between Malta and countries where the level of COVID-19 infections is under control.
The nine countries being considered are Luxembourg, Norway, Austria, Serbia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania and Israel. More countries may be added in the project's second phase.
Malta Tourism Authority CEO Johann Buttigieg also made mention of this, confirming that the MTA's research unit was actively assessing data from various countries to identify more countries with whom safe travel corridors could be opened.
