In the limelight: Malta Biennale puts the islands among world art capitals in 'The Collector'
The Malta Biennale will run for 11 weeks, from Saturday 14th March until Friday 29th May.
With the weeks counting down to the second edition of the Malta Biennale opening to the public, which will happen on Saturday 14th March, the Maltese islands are being recognised as a must-visit destination for art lovers.
In fact, Italian magazine The Collector recently featured Malta in an article titled ‘11 Cities Leading the Way in Art and Culture for 2026’, placing the Malta Biennale alongside global heavyweights such as the Venice Biennale, the Sydney Biennale, and the Bangkok Biennale, as well as major international art events in Abu Dhabi and Mexico City.
The Malta Biennale, which will run for 11 weeks until Friday 29th May, has already attracted substantial international media attention, with coverage appearing across respected art publications and mainstream magazines alike. Renowned online art platform Artsy has also spotlighted Malta as a favourite destination during the Biennale period.
Adding to the global attention, around 40 journalists from across the world are set to attend the official opening, reporting on exhibitions hosted across 11 museums and historic sites managed by Heritage Malta.
One of the Biennale’s most compelling features remains its setting. Contemporary works are exhibited within Malta’s historic architecture – from centuries-old fortifications to palaces and museums – creating a dialogue between past and present that few destinations can offer.
