A sad day for Malta's theatre community.
Karmen Azzopardi, a local actress known for her work both on TV and on stage, has sadly passed away.
Playwright-director Mario Philip Azzopardi took to social media to announce the news this afternoon.
Beloved by many locals, Karmen started her career at the ripe age of 21 and always spoke up about her love for the arts.
Karmen, who had just turned 87 last July, played hundreds of characters throughout her career, lived through a war, and a worldwide pandemic.
Tributes to Karmen quickly started flooding in, with fans sharing their favourite memories of the famed actress.
“A good and deserving actress continues to be mentioned because she gave a lot to the Maltese stage. But unfortunately, death does not forgive anyone. Condolences to her family,” Victor Vella wrote.
Rest in peace Karmen!
