As summer travel picks up, Malta Public Transport has announced a series of service updates to better accommodate increased passenger numbers across both Malta and Gozo. The changes, which roll out in phases starting 1st June, will see the addition of over 250 daily trips, improved frequencies on key routes, and new connections to popular summer destinations.
Changes coming into effect from 1st June:
Route 109 (Dingli–Lapsi): will be extended to connect with the popular Lapsi beach.
Gozo Route 322 (Mġarr–Marsalforn): frequency will double from every 90 minutes to 45.
Gozo Route 310 (Rabat–Marsalforn): frequency will increase from every 45 to 30 minutes.
Gozo Route 302 (Rabat–Ramla): will now also serve Ramla Bay on all trips.
Changes coming into effect from 14th June:
Increased frequencies for Route 212 (Sliema to Buġibba), Route 221 (Buġibba to Ċirkewwa), Route 222 (Sliema to Ċirkewwa), Route 223 (Buġibba to Għajn Tuffieħa), Route 225 (Sliema to Għajn Tuffieħa), Route 49 (Valletta to Għadira/Armier), and Route 53 (Valletta to Rabat).
Routes extended to reach beaches:
- Route 49 will be extended to reach Armier
- Route 74 will be extended to reach Blue Grotto
- Routes 101 and 101B will be extended to reach Ġnejna
Some bus routes will have their frequencies reduced due to lower demand during the summer months, including: Route 61 (Valletta to Żebbuġ), Route 72 (Valletta to Qrendi), and Route 73 (Valletta to Żurrieq).
Changes coming into effect from 6th July:
Route 43 (Valletta to Naxxar) will have its frequency reduced.
Scholastic routes will be suspended for the summer period, including Route X1A (Ċirkewwa to University of Malta), Route 150 (Lascaris to MCAST), and Route 207 (Marsa to Naxxar Higher Secondary).
