The historic façade of Palazzo San Paolo in Rabat has been officially restored and inaugurated during a ceremony held on Sunday evening, coinciding with the start of the Feast of the Martyrdom of Saint Paul.
The restoration was led by the St Paul Society Count Roger Band, with significant support from both public and private sectors.
The newly rehabilitated 300-year-old baroque façade was officially inaugurated, highlighting its cultural importance. The project involved meticulous work to restore deteriorated stonework and remove layers of paint to reveal the original stone surface. Old wooden apertures were also refurbished, with some requiring replacement.

Approximately 90% of the project funding came from government sources, including the Social Causes Fund, Residency Malta Agency, and the Planning Authority’s 'Irrestawra l-Każin' scheme. The project also received a private donation from the AX Group, and technical guidance was provided by the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and the Building and Construction Authority.
The need for continued collaboration between local councils, government bodies, private entities, and the public to preserve the nation’s historical assets was stressed during the inauguration.
The restored Palazzo San Paolo now stands as a reminder to the power of collective effort in protecting Malta’s heritage for future generations.
