Here’s to hope! Cooler weather in Malta to possibly linger until St. Lawrence feast
Malta is experiencing an unexpected cool spell right in the middle of summer. According to weather updates by Temp Madwarna, yesterday, Monday 28th July, recorded a maximum temperature of just 28.4°C, which is a remarkable 11.7°C lower than the high reached just three days earlier, on Friday 25th July.
Today, Tuesday 29th July, similar temperatures are expected, staying 4°C below the seasonal norm; a rare occurrence for this time of year when highs usually soar above 30°C.
This dip in temperature marks the first time since June 20th that the mercury has failed to hit the 30°C mark. On that date, Malta also saw localised rainfall, making the cool weather even more notable. In fact, the last time such low temperatures were recorded was June 4th, a full 55 days ago.
Forecasters expect this relatively mild weather to continue until around the feast of St. Lawrence on August 10th, after which temperatures are likely to rebound.
While it may feel odd to be reaching for a light cover in late July, this break from the typical summer heat is not unheard of. Historically, late July and early August can bring brief spells of cooler weather due to shifting jet stream patterns and contrasts between warm land and cooler sea temperatures.
So, if you've been enjoying the milder air, make the most of it while it lasts!
