Heads up! Most eastern bays across Malta & Gozo marked unsafe for swimming
Beachgoers, take note!

While the weather and sea temperature are definitely still warm enough for a swim, due to some strong easterly gusts blowing over the island, Maltese Islands Weather has indicated that most bays on the island's east coast are currently marked as unsafe for swimming.

Whether you’re starting the weekend early, planning a quick dip after work, or an adventure to Gozo, here’s a breakdown of which beaches are considered safe and which are best avoided for now.

These are the beaches currently marked safe for swimming in Malta: Marfa, Ramla l-Bir, Little Armier, Armier Bay, Rinella Bay, Marsaxlokk, Pretty Bay, Wied iż-Żurrieq, Għar Lapsi, Fomm ir-Riħ, Ġnejna Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa, Golden Bay, Anchor Bay and Paradise Bay.

In Gozo? Best head to: Daħlet Qorrot, Mġarr ix-Xini, Xlendi, Dwejra and Dwejra Inland Sea.

As a general rule, it’s best to avoid the entire east coast for swimming today, but here’s a list of the most popular ones to avoid: Mellieħa, Imġiebaħ, Mistra Bay, St Paul’s Bay, Qawra, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, St George’s Bay, Sliema, Marsaskala, St Thomas Bay, Ħofriet for Malta. On the sister island, best to stay away from Wied il-Għasri, Xwejni Bay, Qbajjar, Marsalforn, Ramla l-Ħamra, San Blas Bay and Ħondoq ir-Rummien.

With swimming season still going strong, it’s always best to double-check beach safety before heading out. Stick to the safe bays, follow lifeguard instructions, and enjoy Malta’s seas responsibly.

Happy swimming!
