Heads up, drivers! New traffic diversions coming on Saturday 12th April as Msida Creek Project enters second phase
Plan your route if you're passing through the area

Get ready for some changes on the road! The Msida Creek Project is moving into its second phase, and with it comes a new set of traffic diversions starting Saturday, 12th April, according to an update from Infrastructure Malta.

If you regularly drive through the Msida area, here’s what you need to know:

  • If you’re travelling from Valletta to Tal-Qroqq (towards the Skate Park), you’ll now need to keep to the right carriageway, take a turn at the ‘Monument tal-Ħaddiem’, and continue onto Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli.
  • If you’re heading from Valletta towards Triq il-Wied tal-Imsida, stick to the left carriageway and drive on towards Birkirkara.

The rest of the routes in the area will remain unaffected, but it’s still a good idea drive slowly in the area, keeping an eye out for changes.

Infrastructure Malta is encouraging all road users to plan their journeys ahead of time, follow on-site signage, and, if possible, use alternative routes to avoid getting stuck in traffic. With construction ramping up, some delays are to be expected.

Launched in November 2024, the Msida Creek Project aims to revamp the area’s road network, with a focus on new, safer roads, dedicated pedestrian and cycling lanes, and a redesigned quay along the Msida waterfront. So far, four months in, about 20% of the works are complete.

Want to avoid last-minute surprises? For real-time updates and live info on diversions and roadworks, you can follow Infrastructure Malta’s WhatsApp channel. It’s a handy way to stay informed as this major project continues to roll out.

Have you driven through Msida Creek recently?
