Any dweller of the Maltese Islands knows that St Patrick’s means one thing: a MASSIVE street party in St Julian’s. While opinions on said street party are divided, the celebratory atmosphere in the sea of green that will fill Spinola Bay (and the surrounding areas) tomorrow is undeniable.

Knowing just how big the party can get, attracting thousands from early afternoon, it’s a good idea to wise up on the bus diversions and road closures that will be in place on Tuesday 17th March. Here they are!

Affected bus routes (from midday onwards)

  • 13, 13A, 16, 202, 212, 222, 225, 233, N212, N13
  • 14, 14B
  • 120
  • 110
  • TD2
  • 211, TD3

During the road closures, buses travelling between Sliema and St Julian’s will be diverted via Sliema Ferries up to Triq Manwel Dimech towards San Ġwann and Regional Road before reconnecting with their normal routes near Paceville.

As a result of the diversion, a number of bus stops along the coastal stretch between Sliema and St Julian’s will temporarily not be served. These include the stops Sliema, Chalet, Għadir, Torri, Exiles, Antik, Balluta, Olivier, Spinola and Ross. Additional stops around the Paceville and Portomaso area may also be affected on certain routes.

Routes travelling between Sliema and Pembroke will be diverted through Rue d’Argens and the Kappara roundabout, while some services operating from San Ġwann and Pembroke towards St Julian’s will temporarily bypass parts of the Paceville and St George’s Bay area.
From San Ġwann heading to St Julian’s will divert via the Regional Road tunnels and turn around at Pender Gardens roundabout before continuing on their normal route. Buses from Pembroke towards Sliema Ferries will divert from Pender Gardens onto Regional Road, pass through the tunnels, and continue via Triq L-Imrabat.

Buses from Paceville towards Sliema Ferries will turn around at Pender Gardens roundabout, travel along Regional Road through the tunnels, and continue via Triq Tas-Sliema, rejoining the normal route on Tower Road owards Sliema Ferries. Stops affected include Ross, Spinola, Olivier, Balluta, Antik, and Exiles.
