Green light! Malta removed from this country’s danger list & deemed safe for travel
Permitted! Malta has been removed from a European country’s danger list that ranks countries according to a 14-day cumulative rate of COVID-19. Previously, Latvia listed Malta in 6th place and back then it was considered a danger zone. But now, we’ve been given the all-clear.
The rate considers the number of cases per 100,000 people in the population. If a country has over 25 cases per 100,000, then it is advised that travellers avoid that particular country. The countries are put in three categories: ‘avoid’ (red), ‘consider carefully’ (yellow), and ‘safe to visit following safety measures’ (grey).

As recorded on 27th May, Malta was listed in 6th place with a rate of 25.6, but this week this was reduced to 5.21, dropping Malta to 18th place. This means Latvian authorities have given the go ahead to travel to Malta, and our islands have also deemed it safe to travel to Latvia.
Latvia is one of the 19 countries that locals can travel to come 1st July when the airport reopens. Apart from Latvia, there are also: Iceland, Slovakia, Cyprus, Lithuania, Israel, Norway, Switzerland, Estonia, Denmark, Hungary, Austria, Luxembourg, Germany, Czechia, Ireland, Finland, Sicily and Sardinia.
