An impressive photo shared by popular Facebook page, Maltese Islands Weather and captured by Malta from Space has revealed a dramatic contrast between Malta and Gozo this autumn.

From above, Gozo shines in lush shades of green, while Malta appears mostly brown and dry, highlighting the stark difference in rainfall between the two islands.

Since September 1st, Gozo has enjoyed an impressive 183.1 mm of rain, compared to just 78.0 mm across Malta. This wetter season has given Gozo’s countryside a vibrant, fertile look; a clear sign of an excellent start to autumn that’s already ‘bearing fruit,’ according to Maltese Islands Weather.

In contrast, most of Malta continues to struggle with dryness. The only noticeably green area lies around Rabat and Dingli, where rainfall slightly exceeded 100 mm. Meanwhile, regions in the Northwest, Pwales, and Southeast have remained almost completely dry, their landscapes still waiting for the season’s first soaking rains.

This striking satellite view serves as a vivid reminder of how localised weather patterns can dramatically shape the Maltese Islands, painting Gozo in green and leaving much of Malta thirsting for rain.
