Gozo mourns Paul M. Cassar, former mayor & the man behind Teatru Astra
Rest in peace.
Gozo is mourning the loss of one of its gentlemen: Mr Paul M. Cassar, who was Victoria’s mayor between 2000 and 2003. Il-Hagar Museum shared the news of his passing, penning touching words during this difficult time.
The Facebook page described him as “the man behind Gozo’s Teatru Astra and an eminent benefactor, in more ways than one, of St George’s Basilica.”
“The Museum is indeed proud to have hosted, less than a month ago, the launch of his book ‘Teatru Astra: Progett ghal Dejjem.’ Deepest condolences to his family, particularly to grandson George Paul Cassar, secretary to Il-Hagar Museum’s management committee. May his soul rest in peace.
Locals who commented on the museum’s post shared their sympathies and touching words. “A great loss for the community!” one person noted.
His granddaughter, Deborah, also shared a post on socials to “one of the most important people” in her life. “You are already missed by all of us,” she said.
Mr Cassar is remembered by all those who knew him and worked with him, including the team at the Gozo Library and organisations such as the Socjeta Filarmonika La Stella.
Rest in peace.
