Big lifts ahead!

The journey has officially begun for Maltese para-athlete Nick Mercieca as he heads to Tbilisi, Georgia, to compete in his very first international event in Para Powerlifting – the WPPO World Cup, taking place between the 10th and 12th May.

Nick will be accompanied by Team Leader Dr Julian Bajada and his coach Matteo Aquilina, both of whom have played an important role in guiding and supporting his athletic development.

No stranger to breaking boundaries, Nick Mercieca holds the title of Malta’s first para blackbelt athlete. He also made international headlines in 2022 when he shattered records in pararowing, becoming the world record holder for the 500m distance. Now, he’s ready to take on a new challenge – lifting on the world’s stage alongside some of the top athletes in the sport.

Best of luck, Nick!
