Impressive! Two Maltese para indoor rowing athletes have just set two new world records
Kurt Farrugia and Nick Mercieca, two paralympic indoor rowers have just set world records at the 2022 Malta National Indoor Rowing Championships.
The two, who represent and train with the Siggiewi Rowing Club, impressively set two global records for the 500 metres event in their respective categories.
Kurt Farrugia, who participated in the adaptive category Men 19-29 PR2, finished the 500 metre even at an impressive 2 minutes and 5.4 seconds. This was 0.7 seconds less than the athlete that previously held it.
On the other hand, Nick Mercieca competed in the adaptive category Men 15-16 PR1 500 metre race, which he completed in 3 minutes 9.6 seconds. This was the first ever world record recorded for this event.
“Supported by coach Juan Carlos, this is the first time that World Records were set in Malta during the National Indoor Rowing Championships by either an abled body athlete or a para-athlete”, the Malta Paralympic Committee announced.
We can’t wait to see what these two talented men continue to achieve!
