Going for a pre-weekend dip? Malta’s bays are back in action after rough seas, but a few remain off limits
Here are the bays you can safely dive into today.
After a few days of moderate to strong winds and choppy seas, Malta’s popular swimming spots are making a welcome comeback. Most of the island’s bays have now been declared safe for swimming again, just in time for beach lovers to reclaim their spot on the sand.
Maltese Islands Weather has confirmed that calm conditions have returned to much of the coast, allowing swimmers to enjoy the clear waters Malta is known for. Whether you’re heading north, south, or to Gozo, you’ll find plenty of safe spots to take a dip.
Here are the bays that are safe for swimming today:
- Northern Malta: Marfa, Ramla l-Bir, Little Armier, Armier Bay, Mellieħa, Imġiebaħ, Mistra Bay, St Paul's Bay, Qawra, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, St George's Bay, Għar Lapsi, Paradise Bay, Anchor Bay, Golden Bay, Ġnejna Bay, Wied iż-Żurrieq
- Central & Southern Malta: Sliema, Rinella Bay, Marsaskala, St Thomas Bay, Ħofriet, Marsaxlokk, Pretty Bay
- Gozo: Xwejni Bay, Qbajjar, Marsalforn, San Blas Bay, Daħlet Qorrot, Ħondoq ir-Rummien, Mġarr ix-Xini, Xlendi, Dwejra (Inland Sea only)
However, not all beaches are back to normal just yet. Strong currents and rougher conditions still persist in some locations.
These bays are currently not recommended for swimming:
- Fomm ir-Riħ
- Għajn Tuffieħa
- Wied il-Għasri
- Ramla l-Ħamra
- Dwejra (excluding Inland Sea)
As always, swimmers are encouraged to follow local guidance and observe posted signs and the advice of lifeguards.
