Gaia Cauchi shares emotional post about bullying, encouraging followers to speak out
Gaia Cauchi shared quite the emotional post last night about the amount of negative comments people leave, especially on social media, which results in bullying and has an effect on mental health.
“Everyday, each and every one of us get called out for something which we’re not even necessarily insecure about, but because of people’s negative comments, we end up believing what they’re saying,” she says, starting off her post.
“Today I asked you to tell me a few words that people make fun of you about and I was honestly so shocked and heartbroken because it hurts me to see how much shit people get all the time,” she says, sympathising with her followers. “If we take a step back and actually think before we talk, this world would be such a better place!”
“Bullying is something which people do in order to make themselves feel better but I promise you, you can never look or feel good by trying to make someone else look bad.” Gaia also gives some advice to anyone who is going through a rough time at the moment, encouraging them to be brave. “Don’t get used to it,” she says. “Stand up for who you are and don’t let them bring you down!! You are beautiful, you are powerful, you are strong and you have every right to be happy!”
The singing sensation announced that she is teaming up with the bBrave Malta campaign “because I am one of you and I feel what you guys go through too.” She encourages her followers to speak up and seek help if they are going through a rough time. “We can do this together, find a friend, a parent, someone you trust, and SPEAK UP! I’m always here if you need me, let’s be brave together,” she says.
Fellow Maltese celebrities and followers took to the comments to congratulate her on speaking up. “Legend,” said Kevin Paul Calleja, followed by a crown emoji. Songstress and mental health activist Christabelle Borg, wrote “Brava” while blues rock singer Kersten Graham wrote, ”Thank you for this kind message.”
As Ellen Degeneres would say, “Be kind to one another!”
