Way to go, Malta! Mayo Clinic in Florida is one of the top-notch hospitals in the US and the CEO happens to be Maltese. Dr Gianrico Farrugia commended his homeland for her response to the pandemic in a message to webstie COVID19: As It Happens.

“I have been watching Malta's COVID-19 response from the United States, and I’m impressed by the quick and comprehensive response to the pandemic,” he says.

He shares the great measures Malta implemented, including travel bans, up-scaling of testing, closure schools and non-essential businesses, and stay-at-home orders.  “Together, these measures have significantly flattened the curve and prevented deaths. Congratulations.”

He shares that in this regard, the United States has been “hit hard” and says it can do with a great example like Malta. “The U.S. still has a long way to go, and we are encouraged to see examples of countries such as Malta that are emerging from the crisis. We will learn from your experience and use it to inform our own decisions as we continue the fight.”
