Experience Malta’s military heritage! Free remembrance weekend event at Fort St Elmo this November
It’s all happening on the 10th of November.
On Sunday, 10th of November, Heritage Malta is inviting locals and tourists alike to an immersive Remembrance Weekend event at Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum, where entrance will be free of charge.
Highlighting Malta’s role as a military tourism destination, the day will feature a range of exciting activities at this historic fort. In addition to free entry, visitors can enjoy curatorial tours, engaging re-enactments, and a military vehicle exhibition.
Weather permitting, an aerial display by a vintage Piper L-44 Grasshopper aircraft will add to the excitement.
Guided tours, offered in both Maltese and English, are available for €5 and must be pre-booked. At 11:00 am, the In Guardia troop will parade through Fort St Elmo, bringing Malta’s Hospitaller era to life. Later, at 1:00 pm, the vintage Piper L-44 Grasshopper will soar over Fort St Elmo and Grand Harbour, courtesy of the Malta Aviation Museum.
Re-enactors from the Malta Command – World War II Living History Group will provide an authentic WWII experience with period drills and weapon demonstrations. Military vehicles will be displayed in Fort St Elmo following a convoy through Valletta starting at 11:30 am.
The day also offers visitors a chance to virtually explore Malta’s underwater historical sites through the Dive into History 360 experience, presented by Heritage Malta’s Underwater Cultural Heritage and Digitisation Units.
Refreshments will be available at the Piazza d’Armi within Fort St Elmo, open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with last entry at 4:30 pm. While the fort is fully accessible, visitors should be prepared for extensive walking throughout the site.
