Excuse us? Belgium bans citizens from travelling to Malta for non-essential purposes
The island is considered to be “very high risk” – but why?

With several weeks of barely any new COVID-19 cases recorded, it may come as a surprise that Malta is among the countries to be placed in the Belgian government’s ‘red zone’ list, where travel is not recommended.

But why would the island, which has had a great reputation for dealing with the virus, been put in a list of cities, municipalities, districts, regions or countries considered to be a “very high risk”?

Well, according to The Brussels Times, Malta’s inclusion is probably down to the island’s mandatory quarantine rules for those travelling from Brussels, although that’s only set to remain in place for a couple more days.

According to a legal notice, Malta will lift the mandatory quarantine from those travelling from Belgium on 15th July, so the island will likely soon be removed from the list of places the Belgian government has banned its citizens travelling to for non-essential purposes.

Well phew!
