Teatru Manoel TOI TOI Learning and Participation programme present a special abridged version of The Scottish Play.
The themes of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth resonate as much today, in every country, as they did when the play was first written. A thirst for power at whatever cost, irrespective of the effect it has on others and how clinging on to that power, people must be disposed of. Although this production of Macbeth is aimed at school students studying Macbeth, this production is equally relevant to an adult contemporary audience. Director Stephen Oliver has “demystified” the play in many ways and fused the ancient with the modern. The only characters who speak Elizabethan verse and prose are the Macbeths and the Witches, all other characters speak in contemporary prose. What you will see is an 80-minute adaptation, which also makes use of film and an original underscore, giving the piece a very cinematic style feel, whilst at the same time staying loyal to all of the famous Shakespearean soliloquies. studied by many of you when you were at school.
