Enough already! 4 (more) Insta shots we've seriously had enough of
How about some originality, people?

Rebecca Anastasi

You know the feeling: that taste of disgust lingering on your tongue as you open Instagram only to find post after post of people doing their best to make you feel jealous of their oh-so-perfect body/home/makeup/travels (delete as appropriate). And, because you KNOW that no one’s life is that ideal, you can’t help but think... enough!

Of course, this is nothing new and we've all been guilty of trying some out ourselves from time to time – but for some fads, we really think it may be time to say: how about some authenticity? You know, just for a change? Here are four Insta shots we do not want to see on our feed. Ever again.

1. The pineapple shot

It's no surprise that travel and lifestyle bloggers flock to the Blue Lagoon in Comino during their visit to Malta, but if we see one more shot of a pineapple cocktail set against the azure waters, we might scream! Apart from being a massive source of harmful plastic pollution (think of the turtles!), once you've seen a pineapple cocktail shot, well, you've pretty much seen them all.

2. Anything which is TOO perfect

Cue rolling of the eyes. There’s no way you leave the house in the morning and it looks THAT ordered; or you throw together a weekend bake and the flour just-so-happens to fall in light waves. And, don’t get us started on your never-out-of-place hair styles or sculpted bodies. It doesn’t hurt to have something a little out of place. Beauty lies in the particular order of imperfections, rather than in staged scenes. Also, who has the time?

3. A view of the… er… hat?

What is it with the Insta-public’s obsession with hats? Yes, we know they’re stylish and they’ve always had a special part to play in both women’s and men’s fashion (indeed, we say bring back more of them!), but 2018’s compulsion to feature hat top shots, usually set on cliff edges, has become a little old. The image may have originated to protect identities – especially considering the global spread of Insta-feeds – but it has now become too hackneyed. Perhaps time to step away from the view before you.

4. The foot shot on patterned tiles

This may be one of the newer habits on the list – and not an altogether hateful one, especially if you take the variety and vibrancy of Maltese flooring into consideration. Previously, looking down was something you did when you were watching where you were going, or were deep in thought. But now, it seems the ground on which we walk on is worthy of attention – the question is, does it need so much?
