End of an era! Tonna Stationery in Żurrieq closes after 51 years
The shelves may empty, but the memories remain!

Francesca Vella

Malta is saying goodbye to a true local icon. After more than 51 years of serving the community, Tonna Stationery will close its doors for the very last time tomorrow.

What started as a small stationery shop quickly became more than just a place to pick up pens, notebooks, or art supplies. For generations of Maltese students, parents, and office workers, it was a staple of daily life – a place intertwined with school routines, first essays, holiday lists, and countless memories.

The closure marks the end of an era, but also a chance to reflect on the nostalgia and memories the shop leaves behind. Alongside the announcement, the owners shared a series of photos capturing some of those everyday moments – reminders of how deeply Tonna Stationery was woven into the fabric of everyday life.

As locals prepare to pop in for one last visit, it’s clear that while the shop may be closing, its legacy will linger in school bags, notebooks, and the stories they tell about their childhoods.

Have you ever been there?
