Many have been complaining about Malta’s current weather. We’re almost done with December, and it still feels like summer.

But exactly nine years ago today, Malta woke up to something quite unusual for a Mediterranean island like ours.

After extremely cold temperatures, Malta became a winter wonderland after heavy hail covered the country, changing our fields from green to white.  

Ever since then, rainfall in December has always been less than the average (104.8mm). December of 2022 was the driest month of all time after only 7mm of rain fell throughout the whole month. 

Who knows what the New Year will bring…
