Last year was all about dry days and sizzling temperatures! According to the Met Office, every single month of 2024 was drier than usual, with July taking the top spot as the driest month, while November managed to cool the island off with the most rainfall.
With just 285.3 mm of rainfall, 2024 goes down as Malta’s third driest year on record. The only years that were even drier were way back in 1947 (228.4 mm) and 1961 (274.2 mm).
And it wasn’t just the lack of rain - temperatures were on the rise too. Most of the year saw above-average heat, except for December, which was the only month to hit the average mark. 2024 saw two intense heatwaves, one in mid-May and another in mid-June. However the hottest day of the year was in July, at a scorching 37.9°C!
The winds didn’t hold back either. The most common gusts came from the West, West-Northwest, and West-Southwest, and April turned out to be one of the windiest months, with five days of gale-force winds.
Are you hoping for more rain this year?
