Drenched! Some Maltese localities saw a month’s worth of rain in just 24 hours
Zurrieq and Dingli were the localities that saw the most rain on Tuesday

If you thought the past few days felt unusually wet for this time of year, you weren’t imagining things! According to Maltese Islands Weather, Malta has already recorded a national mean of 74.8mm of rainfall so far in March – almost double the monthly climatic norm of 40.3mm.

Even more surprising is the fact that some localities in western Malta were absolutely drenched between Tuesday and Wednesday, with over 40mm of rain falling in just 24 hours. Zurrieq saw a whopping total of 43.2 mm, while Dingli saw 41.4 mm – that’s more than a full month’s worth of rain crammed into a single day! Other localities across both Malta and Gozo, including Victoria, Mosta, Fgura and Mqabba saw a total rainfall in the high 30s too.

Despite a slow start to the rainy season in autumn, the islands have now surpassed 400mm of rainfall since September 1st, showing a significant recovery in precipitation levels. This spells good news for the agricultural sector – go out and get that fresh fruit and veg!

How much did it rain in your locality?
